New Zealand has numerous camping grounds, caravan and campervan parks of high standard situated throughout the country. Almost all campgrounds offer full kitchen facilities, BBQ area, TV lounge as well as washing machines and dryers. Visitors are impressed by the cleanliness of shower and toilet blocks and the comprehensive facilities on offer. To get away from it all, Department of Conservation (DOC) camps can be found in remote areas of New Zealand and provide beautiful camp settings but do not provide shower, toilet or kitchen facilities. Freedom's friendly staff will provide you with 2 separate maps showing you the Kiwi Camps, HAPNZ and the Top Ten Group of Camps. These show you the positioning of the camps which allows you to easily plan your itinerary
Freedom Campers NZ Rental Terms SUMMARY OF RENTAL CONDITIONS
This document contains a brief summary of our rental conditions. The full details of our rental contract do apply. For detailed conditions, refer to the rental agreement upon vehicle collection. Rates quoted are in New Zealand dollars.
Standard Rates include:
- Standard excess insurance cover

- 12.5% G.S.T. (Goods and Services Tax) From 1st October 2010 it will increase to 15%.
RENTAL DURATION
Minimum rental period: 5 days. Minimum rental is extended to 14 days for travel between 20 December 2010 and 10 January 2011. Vehicle rentals are calculated on a per calendar day basis, i.e. day of pick-up or drop off is always counted as a full day irrespective of what time it is collected or dropped off. Minimum rental period is subject to change during peak periods. Vehicles are required to be collected and returned within business hours.
Each day after the final hire day, that the vehicle is not returned, you may be charged double the daily gross rental rate.
Late pick-up or early return of vehicle does not entitle the hirer to any refund of the unused portion of the rental.
BRANCHES
Freedom has branches close to Auckland and Christchurch airports. Queenstown is available on application for a small fee of NZ$300 for pick-up and/or Drop-off. Branches are open seven days a week.

All branches are closed on Christmas Day (25 December).
TAXES
Our rates include GST of 12.5%. From 1st October 2010 it will increase to 15%.
INSURANCE
The vehicle is fully insured in case of accident damage or loss of contents (excluding personal belongings). There is an excess/deductible of NZ$1200 ($2400 for drivers under 25 Years of age) This covers the cost of damage to Third Party property or to the rented vehicle, including single vehicle accident, windscreen and tyre damage overhead and underbody damage, towing and recovery costs, theft, fire, break in or vandalism. This also includes the cost of the daily rental rate for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs. The Liability applies in respect of each claim, not per rental. In addition to the Liability an administration fee of $60 will be charged per claim.
BOND
When you collect your vehicle we take an impression of your credit card for the bond of NZ$1200. This is the insurance excess for any single accident which may occur during your holiday. Drivers aged 21-24 Years the bond is $2400. The impression of your credit card covers your accident-damage bond liability plus any extra costs such as fuel fill-up, emptying of the toilet at the end of hire, or any traffic infringements, losses or breakages. A credit card imprint must be on all rental agreements and must be the credit card of the main hirer unless prior arrangements have been made. We do not deduct the bond from the credit card, but merely hold the authority to deduct it in the unfortunate event of an accident. Where a credit card is not available, a cash bond will be held by Freedom Campers for 21 Days following hire.
PLEASE NOTE: For customers who are using debit cards for the security deposit, due to the limitations within Terms of Use for Debit Cards these are treated as cash and the full excess will be debited unless the Bond Waiver is purchased and then a signed imprint will be taken.
BOND WAIVER / EXCESS REDUCTION
Freedom Campers offers Excess Reduction as an optional extra at a fixed rate of NZ$20.00 per day ($29 per day for drivers under 25 years). This has a nil excess that covers you if you have an accident with another vehicle whether your fault or not, (especially if you have an accident with another vehicle and they have no insurance).
This Excess Reduction also has a nil excess that covers any accidental damage to Windscreens including replacement plus accidental damage to tyres. Excess Reduction does not cover you if you have a misjudgment of dimensions, eg hit a stationary object.
Please note that Excess Reduction is completely optional and can be decided upon collection of your vehicle
FREEDOM CAMPERS STRONGLY RECOMMENDS OUR CUSTOMERS TO TAKE THE BOND WAIVER INSURANCE TO MINIMISE EXCESS EXPOSURE AND TRAVEL WITH PEACE OF MIND
EXCLUSIONS
Bond waiver does not cover:
- Any water related damage, which includes but is not limited to:
a) Any vehicle submersion.
b) Creek or river crossing.
c) Driving through low plain flooded areas.
d) Beach driving.
- Personal belongings: We recommend the hirer does not leave valuables in the vehicle and that they take out personal insurance.
- The terms of the Rental Agreement are breached. The hirer will be responsible for the total cost of any damage. This will also include any damage caused by willful misconduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet or roof of the vehicle) and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- The incorrect use of fuel (fuel being diesel or petrol). The hirer will be responsible for any associated cost.
- The cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle which has become bogged.
- The cost to replace keys, which have become lost, or retrieval of keys, which have been locked in a vehicle.
- Overhead and underbody damage to the vehicle.
- Any damage arising from misjudgment of dimensions.
- Driving on restricted roads.
TRANSFER
Vehicles must be collected and returned to our branches (not airports). A transfer to the Freedom branch from the Airport and vice versa is provided free of charge. This also includes airport accommodation. Please advise Surname, Reservation Number, Arrival Terminal or hotel name and Number of Passengers requiring collection when you contact us. Our courtesy collection is normally within 30 minutes and operates up to 1 hour prior to close.
CREDIT CARDS
We only accept Visa or MasterCard. These cards will incur an additional 2% surcharge on any transaction.
EXCHANGE RATE / CURRENCY VARIATIONS
A valid full (non-provisional) national drivers licence is required. Non-English language national drivers licences must be presented in conjunction with an official translation or valid international drivers licence. The minimum age is 21 years. Additional drivers must meet all Freedom rental requirements, be at the depot at time of vehicle pickup and sign the rental agreement.

Each vehicle is supplied with complimentary general equipment (such as pegs and clothes line, dustpan/brush, fire extinguisher and bucket/hose). KITCHEN AND PERSONAL KITS
Each vehicle is supplied with complimentary living equipment (such as bedding, cooking equipment, eating utensils, bath and tea towels.) MAPS AND CAMPGROUND GUIDES
Each vehicle is supplied with a complimentary Road Atlas as well as campground guides. VEHICLE CONSULATION
On pick up of the vehicle our staff will provide a complimentary vehicle consultation. This includes an explanation of all the interior and exterior features of the vehicle as well as driving tips. SMOKING AND ANIMAL RESTRICATIONS
Smoking in Freedom vehicles is strictly prohibited, and offenders will be charged a fume removal fee of NZ$500. Animals are also not permitted in any Freedom vehicle and the same cleaning fee will apply. L.P. GAS REFILL SERVICE FEE
The gas bottle(s) is supplied full. A service fee is payable on pick up of the vehicle:
- $20 - Hitop Campervan, 2 Berth S/T Camper and Bushcamper
- $35 - 4 and 6 Berth Motorhomes
The gas bottle can be returned empty to Freedom at the completion of the rental. ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT FOR HIRE:
- Camp Chairs - $5 each per rental
- Camp Table - $15 per rental
- Outside BBQ - $50 per rental
- Power inverter 12v-240v- $25 per rental
- Chilly/Eski Bin - $10 per rental
- GPS - $6 per day (min NZ$75 - max $150)
- Snow Chains - $45 per rental (must be pre-booked)
- Baby High Chair - $35 per rental
- Baby Porta Cot - $40 per rental
- Baby Seats* - Baby seats (must be pre-booked) suitable for children NB to 3 years of age can be fitted to the Motorhome Range. Cost is $25 per rental.
- Booster Seats* - A booster seat (must be pre-booked) suitable for a child between 3 and 8 years of age can be supplied for the Motorhome Range. Cost is $25 each per rental. - Please note the legal requirement in NZ for child restraints:
CHILDREN UNDER 5 YEARS OLD
- Must be properly restrained by an approved child restraint.
- They must not travel in the car if you can’t put them in an approved child restraint. CHILDREN 5 TO 7 YEARS OLD
- Must use a child restraint if available.
- If there is no child restraint available, the child must use a safety belt.
Baby or booster seat cannot be fitted in 2 berth s/t Path Seeker camper. MULTIPLE RENTALS
Consecutive rentals can be combined to qualify for a long-term discount rate. Rentals in Tasmania (Australia) and New Zealand can be combined to obtain a long-term discount rate, providing travel is within a 3 month period. If drop off of a vehicle and pick up of a new vehicle occurs on the same day then a day each will be charged per respective vehicle. Multiple rentals are treated as separate rentals under the one way fee and minimum rental period conditions. FERRY RESERVATIONS
The two main islands of New Zealand, the North Island and South Island, are separated by sea and require a ferry trip. If you wish to hire from Auckland to Christchurch or vice versa you will require a ferry. The ferry trip takes approx. 3.5 hours and there are several sailings per day in each direction.
During the peak tourist months November to March, reservations are highly recommended. Ferry pricing is based on the length of the campervan/motorhome. TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS
Freedom vehicles can only be driven on public roads sealed/unsealed. No vehicle is to be driven on the following roads: Skippers Canyon Road, Ball Hutt Road, 90 Mile Beach, Cape Colville to Port Jackson Road and all unsealed ski access roads. CHANGE OF DROP OFF DESTINATION
If the renter wishes to change the drop off destination after the rental has commenced, they first must obtain authorisation from Freedom Reservations in Christchurch. Subject to the change being approved, a minimum additional charge of $750 may apply. RENTAL EXTENSION
If the customer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must first obtain authorisation from Freedom Reservations in Christchurch who will advise of the additional costs. Rental extension is subject to fleet availability. The extra cost (Gross Rate) of an extended rental must be paid by credit card over the telephone or at an Freedom Branch immediately on confirmation of the rental extension.
Failure to obtain authorisation will result in the renter maybe being charged double the daily gross rental rate. CALCULATION ERRORS
Freedom will not honor calculation errors. Should a calculation error occur Freedom will charge for the shortfall. REPAIRS
Although we run quality vehicles, it may happen that small repairs are required.
Repairs up to NZ$100 may be affected without authorisation and will be reimbursed upon presentation of a receipt. For amounts over NZ$100, Freedom will need to be informed in advance. Repairs will be approved provided the customer was not directly responsible for the damage. Receipts must be submitted for any repair or the claim will not be paid. CUSTOMER CARE ON ROAD ASSISTANCE
Any problems associated with the vehicle, including equipment failure, must be reported to Freedom as soon as possible and within 24 hours in order to give Freedom the opportunity to rectify the problem during the rental. Failure to do so will compromise any claims for compensation. Freedom do not accept liability for any claims submitted after this period. INFRINGEMENTS AND ADMINISTRATION FEES
Freedom reserves the right to charge the hirer for any speeding, toll way or parking fines and/or vehicle damage including Third Party property damage not reported on return of the vehicle. In addition to these costs, Freedom reserve the right to charge for associated administration costs for processing the fines (irrespective of excess) and/or all insurance claims in the event of the customer not having a NIL excess. In addition to the costs associated per fine and/or insurance claim, an administration fee of $60 will be applicable. CHANGE OF VEHICLE
Should the vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances, we reserve the right to substitute an alternative vehicle without prior notification and at no extra cost. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the renter to a refund. VEHICLE CATEGORY
Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category. VOLUNTARY DOWNGRADE
Should the renter decide to take a lesser vehicle than booked within 14 days of pick up or during the rental then they will not be entitled to any refund. LIMIT OF LIABILITY
In the event of no alternative vehicle being available to the renter our liability is limited to a refund of the hire charge or in the case of mechanical failure (unless caused by the renter) the remainder of the hire period. ONE WAY HIRES
Its is possible to commence your hire in Auckland and finish it in Christchurch (or vice versa) at no extra charge if the rental period is a minimum of fourteen (14) days. One way hires of shorter duration are subject to availability and a fee. Please enquire.
Short hires of under 5 days are often available on request. Mileage is limited to 150Km per day. Extra kms will be charged @ $0.35. An additional $50 cleaning fee will apply. ACCIDENTS AND BREAKDOWNS
The liability of Freedom Campers Ltd, or its agents, extends to either replacing your vehicle with a similar one, or refunding your hire charge for any days you lose the total use of the vehicle. Any problems associated with the vehicle, including equipment failure, must be reported to Freedom as soon as possible and within 24 hours in order to give Freedom the opportunity to rectify the problem during the rental. Failure to do so will compromise any claims for compensation. We do not accept liability for any claims submitted after this period.
In all cases the responsibility of Freedom campers is limited to refunding for the time that the vehicle was actually in repair. No alternative accommodation or food items will be paid for during down time. Malfunction of Radio/Cassette/CD players TV’s Videos, Microwave, Stove and Grill, Air-conditioning units, Heater, Fridge, Water pump, Shower and Toilet are not considered mechanical breakdowns and downtime will not be paid for these items. CANCELLATIONS
Once a booking has been confirmed and a deposit paid the booking is considered live and is subject to the cancellation policy.
The initial deposit paid is non-refundable. In addition to forfeiting your deposit, the following charges also apply:
A further NZ$500 deposit is forfeited if bookings are cancelled 32 days and over of departure.
- 23 - 32 days 20% of total reservation cost
- 13 - 22 days 40% of total reservation cost
- 4 - 12 days 75% of total reservation cost
- 3 days or No Show 100% of total reservation cost.
In all cases the minimum amount retained is the deposit.
No refunds for cancellations made after the travel or travel date has commenced. If the vehicle is returned early for any reason whatsoever after travel has commenced then no refund is available.
BOOKING AMENDMENTS
- Amendments to increase the length of the booking can be made at no cost. Amendments to decrease the booking will be charged a amendment fee provided the amendments occur at least 33 days prior to departure date.
- If rental dates are amended within 17 days of vehicle pick up, no refund will be made if the hire is shortened.
- If the pick up or drop off rental location is amended within 17 days of vehicle pick up, a relocation fee may apply.
- Changes to the drop off rental location after the rental has commenced must be approved by FREEDOM reservations. If approved a minimum charge of NZ$750 may apply.
- Rental extension, whilst on hire, must be approved by FREEDOM reservations. The extra cost must be paid on confirmation of the rental extension. TRAVEL INSURANCE
We strongly recommend that clients ensure they take out the highest level of travel insurance. In many cases this will cover any losses incurred if you are forced to cancel your booking.
DEPOSITS AND PAYMENTS
A non refundable booking deposit is required to secure your motorhome booking. The exact amount is detailed in the breakdown of pricing.
The balance is due 28 days prior to commencement of the hire. If the balance is not received 28 days prior, Freedom Campers reserves the right to treat the booking as cancelled.
FUEL
All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel at the start of hire, and must be returned with a full tank at the end of your hire otherwise a refueling fee will apply.
DISCLAIMER
llustrations and text in any of our brochures or website are a representation only of the vehicle depicted. Variances in the vehicles offered for rental may occur due to substitutions made by Freedom or modifications and/or upgrades to the vehicle design made by the manufacturer. Prices may be subject to change due to factors beyond the control of Freedom Campers Ltd. Any changes in price affecting a client between the time of booking and payment received will be advised immediately. The company takes no responsibility for any detention, delay, loss, damage or injury that a hirer might experience no matter how it is caused or by whom. The company’s rental agreement is the sole contract for hiring the vehicle, between the company and the hirer and passenger(s). No refunds are payable on accommodation, or Motorhome/ Campervan not being available, where a hirer or passenger amends, cancels or seeks to vary agreements after departure. The company cannot be bound by any representative or statement unless it is confirmed in writing by the company’s directors or management. Your travel agent will forward deposits and other payments to us on your behalf, but your travel agent is not our agent for the purpose of the receipt of monies.

In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. We make every effort to keep information on our site up to date, but we cannot guarantee this website is free of errors or omissions and retain the right to update or change the information published at any time.
Liability
To the extent permitted by law we/the owners of this website will not be liable to you or to any third party (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage (including but not limited to any accident, injury, delay or loss of enjoyment) arising out of your reliance upon information contained on this website, including but not limited to your use (or inability to use) any products or services described or procured through this website.
When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier’s rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.
While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.
Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed. Please note that a 1.75% credit card charge will be added when your payment is processed.
A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.
Information disclosure
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.
Amendments
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Car rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 25.00
To add or remove extras to/from a confirmed booking: 10.00
Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 75.00
To add or remove extras to/from confirmed booking: 20.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.
Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. Information disclaimer
The rates on this website are often heavily discounted. This is due to our negotiated rates and bulk buying power. On very rare occasions, a rate may be displayed incorrectly due to our, or a vehicle supplier's error. In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. We make every effort to keep information on our site up to date, but we cannot guarantee this website is free of errors or omissions and retain the right to update or change the information published at any time.
Liability
To the extent permitted by law we/the owners of this website will not be liable to you or to any third party (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage (including but not limited to any accident, injury, delay or loss of enjoyment) arising out of your reliance upon information contained on this website, including but not limited to your use (or inability to use) any products or services described or procured through this website.
When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier’s rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.
While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.
Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed. Please note that a 1.75% credit card charge will be added when your payment is processed.
A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.
Information disclosure
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.
Amendments
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Car rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 25.00
To add or remove extras to/from a confirmed booking: 10.00
Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 75.00
To add or remove extras to/from confirmed booking: 20.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.
Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
Freedom Campers NZ Insurance
INSURANCE
The vehicle is fully insured in case of accident damage or loss of contents (excluding personal belongings). There is an excess/deductible of NZ$1200 ($2400 for drivers under 25 Years of age) This covers the cost of damage to Third Party property or to the rented vehicle, including single vehicle accident, windscreen and tyre damage overhead and underbody damage, towing and recovery costs, theft, fire, break in or vandalism. This also includes the cost of the daily rental rate for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs. The Liability applies in respect of each claim, not per rental. In addition to the Liability an administration fee of $60 will be charged per claim.
BOND
When you collect your vehicle we take an impression of your credit card for the bond of NZ$1200. This is the insurance excess for any single accident which may occur during your holiday. Drivers aged 21-24 Years the bond is $2400. The impression of your credit card covers your accident-damage bond liability plus any extra costs such as fuel fill-up, emptying of the toilet at the end of hire, or any traffic infringements, losses or breakages. A credit card imprint must be on all rental agreements and must be the credit card of the main hirer unless prior arrangements have been made. We do not deduct the bond from the credit card, but merely hold the authority to deduct it in the unfortunate event of an accident. Where a credit card is not available, a cash bond will be held by Freedom Campers for 21 Days following hire.
PLEASE NOTE: For customers who are using debit cards for the security deposit, due to the limitations within Terms of Use for Debit Cards these are treated as cash and the full excess will be debited unless the Bond Waiver is purchased and then a signed imprint will be taken.
BOND WAIVER / EXCESS REDUCTION
Freedom Campers offers Excess Reduction as an optional extra at a fixed rate of NZ$20.00 per day ($29 per day for drivers under 25 years). This has a nil excess that covers you if you have an accident with another vehicle whether your fault or not, (especially if you have an accident with another vehicle and they have no insurance).
This Excess Reduction also has a nil excess that covers any accidental damage to Windscreens including replacement plus accidental damage to tyres. Excess Reduction does not cover you if you have a misjudgment of dimensions, eg hit a stationary object.
Please note that Excess Reduction is completely optional and can be decided upon collection of your vehicle
FREEDOM CAMPERS STRONGLY RECOMMENDS OUR CUSTOMERS TO TAKE THE BOND WAIVER INSURANCE TO MINIMISE EXCESS EXPOSURE AND TRAVEL WITH PEACE OF MIND
EXCLUSIONS
Bond waiver does not cover:
- Any water related damage, which includes but is not limited to:
a) Any vehicle submersion.
b) Creek or river crossing.
c) Driving through low plain flooded areas.
d) Beach driving.
- Personal belongings: We recommend the hirer does not leave valuables in the vehicle and that they take out personal insurance.
- The terms of the Rental Agreement are breached. The hirer will be responsible for the total cost of any damage. This will also include any damage caused by willful misconduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet or roof of the vehicle) and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- The incorrect use of fuel (fuel being diesel or petrol). The hirer will be responsible for any associated cost.
- The cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle which has become bogged.
- The cost to replace keys, which have become lost, or retrieval of keys, which have been locked in a vehicle.
- Overhead and underbody damage to the vehicle.
- Any damage arising from misjudgment of dimensions.
- Driving on restricted roads.
